Much-loved STEPS training mannequin Bernie recently enjoyed a rare day out at the Bundaberg Careers Expo 2026 Opens in new tab or window and quickly became one of the event’s most popular attractions.

Usually found quietly sitting in class, Bernie helps our Individual Support participants learn safe techniques and practical care skills. But Bernie had the opportunity to step out on the town and visit Bundaberg Regional CouncilOpens in new tab or window’s Careers Expo, meeting local students and sparking conversations about careers in the care industry.

The event helped showcase STEPS’ Individual Support training, which can open doors to one of Bundaberg’s fastest-growing sectors. Bernie and the team also took the opportunity to spread the word about the other STEPS programs on offer at Bundaberg, including Get Set for WorkOpens in new tab or window, STEPS Work MatesOpens in new tab or window, and the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) ProgramOpens in new tab or window, highlighting the range of support available to job seekers in the community. Winter is the perfect time to refresh your garden beds. Start by removing any weeds, then apply a fresh layer of compost (products like Rocky Point Active Grow work well, and you can find it in-store). Finish with a generous layer of mulch to help suppress weeds and retain moisture while protecting the soil during the cooler months.

If you grow dahlias, now is the time to lift tubers from the ground. We recommend storing them in sawdust in a cool, dry place to prevent rotting and keep them healthy and ready to replant when it’s closer to spring.
