Give back to the community and turn your passion for helping others into a fulfilling career. Gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for providing person-centred support to people who require assistance due to ageing or disability. The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) is a nationally recognised qualification providing you with the confidence needed to gain employment in a range of care and support roles.

Location

Hobart – 27 Elizabeth Street

Delivery and duration

39 week (9 months) mixed mode online course
2 days mandatory attendance in class per month at our Hobart site
Online study through weekly webinars with a trainer, real-time learning and self-directed learning online at the same time
15 units (subjects) including 9 core and 6 electives
Class times 9.30am to 2.30pm or negotiated with the trainer
Students may need to spend 10 hours per week on research and self-directed learning from the course materials (including completing assessments)

Work placement

120 hours of vocational placement is required which can be met through their workplace hours (must be in a direct support role with clients). Please note that evidence of hours from workplace will be required.
Monday to Friday with own transport required

Entry requirements

Physical ability to be able to perform the required manual handling duties of a carer
National Police Check
Working with Children (Blue Card)
NDIS Worker’s Screening Card (Yellow Card)
Language, literacy and numeracy assessment

Citizenship and Visa status

Is an Australian citizen or who holds a current Australian permanent resident visa; or
Is lawfully permitted to work and study in Australia and who is also:
1. A New Zealand Citizen with a Special Category Visa; or
2. The holder of a valid temporary humanitarian visa; or
3. The holder of a Tasmanian State Nominated Skilled visa; or
4. The holder of abridging visa and awaiting a decision on a Tasmanian State Nominated Skilled Visa; or
5. A dependent (aged over 18 years of age) or partner (spouse) visa holder of a person who satisfied the requires for an eligible leaner.

School learner status

A school aged leaner is only eligible to be an Eligible Learner if they:

Satisfy the requirements above
Are undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Prior qualifications and funding source

In addition to the requirements set out in this section 3, for a person to be an Eligible Learner, they must:

Have not received Subsidised Training for the same Training Product (unless required by licensing) in the previous five (5) years
Not be currently receiving funding for the same Training Product from any other government source (local, State or Australian); and
Have an approved training contract if they will train as an apprentice or trainee.

Employees of government agencies and departments

A person who otherwise satisfies the requirements for being an Eligible Learner is ineligible to receive Subsidised Training if the training in question is connected to their employment with:

A Australian Government agency or department; or
A Tasmanian Government agency or department unless otherwise approved by the Grantor in writing.
